FAQs

What is dermal filler and how does it work?

Dermal fillers are based on Hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that naturally exists in your body.  Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that exists naturally in almost all living organisms. It binds water and can act as a lubricant and shock absorber in movable parts of the body such as joints. It is also important for the transport of nutrients and in regulating water balance in skin.

Dermal fillers work by boosting the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid, revitalise and add volume to the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and giving a natural softer look. It is long-lasting but not permanent.

When will I see results and how long does dermal fillers last?

You will see immediate results post treatment, with restored facial contours and a refreshed hydrated appearance. Depending on the area treated, there may be some swelling or bruising that will subside in the coming days. Results continue to improve over time and last 6-24 months.

Do dermal fillers hurt?

The injections feel like a slight pinch, and you may experience slight pressure or a ‘stinging’ sensation as the product is being injected. Depending on your personal pain tolerance and on the area, we may apply or inject a local anaesthetic to the area.

Immediately post treatment you may feel tenderness in the area treated, and some mild swelling and bruising (which will subside in the coming days).

What brands of filler do you use?

Due to TGA guidelines, we are unable to advertise the brand names of prescription medicines such as dermal filler. We do however stock the leading brands of all fillers and when you have your Skin Consultation we can freely talk about the options available.

What do I need to know about post-treatment care?

Each area will have it’s individual post care needs (all of which will be shared with you during your treatments. These are the general points of care to keep in mind:

Bruising is normal - there is a 50/50 chance that you will bruise post dermal filler injections and they usually develop the next day.

Swelling is normal - swelling will get worse for the next 24 hours post treatment but will reduce within 7-10 days. Antihistamines for the next couple of days can help.

Lumps are normal – they can be massaged out under a warm shower, and can sometimes take 4-5 weeks to naturally absorb into your collagen.

Do not do heavy exercise or drink alcohol 24 hours post treatment, as this can increase bruising.

Drink plenty of water – Dermal filler attracts water therefore hydration! The more water you drink the better.

Do not touch the area treated as it’s important to keep it clean to avoid infection.
